WSOPE Event #4 – €3,000 No-Limit Holdem Shoot Out Event The final days poker has concluded in event number four at the 2011 World Series of Poker Europe, with Tristan Wade claiming the fourth bracelet of the WSOPE, having beaten Michael Watsone heads up.
The day had begun with a final table of ten players all vying for the title and the €182,048 first prize, with Max Silver and James Dempsey flying the flag for the Brits.
It was Dempsey at the heart of some early controversy, as when he took his seat he decided that he was 5,000 chips short. The situation was resolved amicably though, with Dempsey jokingly declaring: Its only one chip. Ill beat all these bums anyway!
First to hit the rail was John Armbrust, whose pocket sixes couldnt hang on against the A 7 of Richard Toth, before Dempsey found himself in serious trouble against Caesars Cup captain Bertrand ElkY Grospellier. Dempsey got the chips to the middle with pocket eights, but ElkY was looking down at two nines and was all too happy to make the call. Neither player improved, and Dempsey left WSOPE event number four in ninth place.
Taylor Paur busted in eighth after running his suited K J into the pocket aces of Max Silver, while Emil Patel followed Paur out of WSOPE event number four just minutes later, after shoving all in with A Q and finding Richard Toth with a dominating A K. A king on the flop left Patel in serious trouble and the blank turn and river sealed the deal.
EPT London runner up Steve ODwyer had enjoyed more than his fair share of good fortune at this latest World Series of Poker final table, but his luck eventually ran out and he was next to go when dominated by Tristan Wade, with A J against K J. Grospellier followed after shoving a suited K Q, with Michael Watson reluctantly calling with pocket sixes. It proved to be the correct decision, especially when a flop of 9 6 7 left the Frenchman drawing to nothing but a split pot, which never came.
It took just one more hand before the next WSOPE No Limit Holdem Shoot Out elimination Max Silver. The Brit shoved with pocket fours, only to be snap called by Tristan Wade, who was holding pocket kings. There was no gold on the board for Silver, who left the tournament in fourth place.
Richard Toth soon found himself short and was forced to play Q T against the A K of Michael Watson, which initially looked good when the flop fell Q J 6. The turn card brought two pair for Toth, to the delight of some of his railbirds, who hadnt realised that the same card had given Watson a straight. They quickly realised their error when the blank river saw Toth shaking hands and leaving the tournament.
The heads up chip counts in the WSOPE No Limit Holdem Shoot Out looked as follows, at the start of the contest:
Michael Watson: 1,378,000 Tristan Wade: 985,000
Wade proceeded to steam roller Watson and not only stole the chip lead, but even managed to get him all in when in a tight spot. Wade forced Watson all in with K T against pocket jacks, but a king on the flop kept Watsons tournament alive, albeit briefly.
Just minutes later though, it was all over. Wade looked down at another pair of jacks and three bet from the big blind. Watson moved all in, with a suited A 5, before Watson insta-called with his pocket pair. The board ran out Q Q 4 T 2 and Wade was looking at a first World Series of Poker bracelet.

WSOPE Event #5 – €10,400 No Limit Holdem (Split Format) Event 72 players resumed day two of the innovative Split Format WSOPE tournament dubbed Mix Max and by the end of the days six handed poker, just sixteen players will remain. Those players will then play a series of heads up fixtures over the next two days, until just one player remains the winner of WSOPE event number five.
Jack Effel, WSOPE Tournament Director, said of the new format: I know some people still don’t fully get it, but it really is just nine handed on day one, six handed on day two and then a 16 player heads up bracket. It really is that simple but players are going to need a ton of strategy along the way.
Star names from the poker galaxy such as Jonathan Duhamel, Carlos Mortensen, Tony G, Tom durrrr Dwan and Vanessa Rousso all busted on day two, while just 18 players remain at the time of publication two short of the money and the end of the day.
The top six chip leaders will all be feeling pretty confident about making it to the heads up stage, and they are as follows:
1 Brian Powell 405,000 2 Roger Hairabedian 400,000 3 Shawn Buchanan 314,000 4 Erik Seidel 300,000 5 Brian Hastings 280,000 6 Alexander Roumeliotis 262,000
WSOPE Event #6 – €1,500 Six Handed Pot Limit Omaha Event This evening saw the commencement of the sixth tournament of the 2011 World Series of Poker Europe, a €1,500 + €120 Six Handed Pot Limit Omaha event.
Plenty of star names stumped up the cash, such as ten times World Series of Poker winner Johnny Chan, plus Britains Dave Devilfish Ulliot, WSOP November Niner Eoghan ODea and recent WSOPE winner Steve Billirakis.
Eliminations came thick and fast and the 339 starting field were dropping like flies. 267 players had busted by the time of the final break meaning two hours of poker still to play including the likes of Barry Greenstein, Jennifer Harman, Mario Ho, Juha Helppi, David Sands and Matt Giannetti.
At time of publication, there were still 70 players in the hunt for the €124,584 first prize and the top six chip stacks were as follows:
1 Salman Behbehani 65,000 2 Roberto Romanello 60,000 3 Bryan Devonshire 58,000 4 Victor Ramdin 43,000 5 Andy Frankenberger 42,000 6 Nicolas Fierro 40,000
