That’s poker – Easy come, easy go

Damn I love this town.

Ive been here already a week now and have yet to sit down at the poker tables because Ive been working so much. That changes today. Im in about 30 minutes, Im headed to the Rio to buy into my first WSOP 2011 event.

Its a 1k which means its the fastest structure possible so Ill need to get a bit lucky early on to carry on past day one.

Im going to try my luck at maybe 4 or 5 events this summer and see what happens. If any of you are out in Vegas and see me, please come and say hi. Its always nice to meet Party Poker players!

Ive bumped into all kinds of people I know out here already and that is definitely part of the charm of Vegas during the World Series. The players, the journalists, the tournament staff its like Old Home Week out here.

I was at the Rio working for ESPN on the WSOP broadcast last week so I kept a very sensible head on me and didnt go out at all so Im itching to catch up with folks.

Hopefully Ill have some good news to report from the felt as well!

UPDATE

Well, Ive played two events so far this week. First up was the $1k NLHE which started on Sunday. I had a pretty good day 1 but ended up losing a really big pot in the second to last hand of the day (I need to start leaving 5 minutes early, I swear) when I turned a straight and my opponent hit running flush cards.

I showed up for Day 2 with only about 20bb and as we were really close to the bubble, everything took aaaaages. I recovered some chips but then lost a bunch around the time my table broke. I managed to min-cash but ended up busting out on a coinflip. Still, a cash is a cash!

I played event 12 which was the $1500 triple chance event. This means that we all started with 1500 chips and two add ons of 1500 chips which we could use at any time (4500 chips total). I had a great day generally although there were some very good players at my table; Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Issac Baron in particular but thankfully they were both to my right.

There was also a really good player who I dont recognise but also played with yesterday. One thing I know, hes damn good. I worked my chips up to 17k in the first 5 levels (including doubling up with v Timoshenkos ) but then ran my into the unknown good players on a flop. Damn. After that, it was all down hill as I doubled up a short stack with against his and busted with my last 14 bb with against .

But, thats poker. Easy come, easy go. Ill be playing the $1500 shoot out tomorrow and thats my last event for a few days so hopefully I get a good run at it!
