Government urged to overlook online bingo when balancing Britain’s books

Online bingo could be under threat from the coalition governments latest raft of proposed austerity measures and one industry expert has claimed that the government should be wary of increasing taxes on online gaming.According to Jesper Soegaard, the founder of BettingExpert.com, bingo fans will end up with far less choice if the government cracks down on the industry as a means of boosting tax receipts and getting the UK out of debt.Mr Soegaard said: “In the current economic climate, with the government desperately seeking to raise funds in every area available to them, it is unsurprising that an overhaul in gambling regulations is being discussed.A regulation overhaul, however, would be “catastrophic”, he claimed. The online bingo and gaming expert warned that the victims of the shake-up would be hard-working, fun-loving online bingo players.Mr Soegaard believes that the worst affected would be the smaller outfits and once they ceased trading, there would be thousands of online bingo fans desperately scouring the net for a new place to play.Meanwhile, over the pond, new legislation has been introduced in the senate that would actually loosen the grip of laws surrounding online gaming – such as bingo games and poker – after the US pushed ahead with a major crackdown last year.
