Eoghan O’Dea Enter WSOP Main Event Final Table

Although Eoghan ODea may not be the most famous player included in this years World Series of Poker Main Event final table, his heritage alone should have plenty of the rail rooting for him to win. Donnacha ODea, who just so happens to be Eoghans father, played in the WSOP Main Event in 1983. Although the elder ODea didnt win the event, he came close, cashing in at 6th place a full 28 years before his son will compete in the same forum.

ODea, a native of Ireland, is well-equipped for a healthy run at the final table with just under 34,000,000 chips. The only player ahead of him is Martin Staszko, whose stack measures just over 40,000,000. The gab between ODea and third-place contender Matt Giannetti is enormous, however, as the latter player will bring less than 25,000,000 chips back to the Amazon Room at the Rio in Las Vegas this November.

Despite his young age of 26, ODea was able to outlast 6,800 players in the Main Event so far. A first-place finish this fall would award him permanent financial independence in the form of an $8.7 million cash purse.

Although ODea has never had a shot at such a huge cash in the past, hes no stranger to professional poker. With wins at both the Ladbrokes Poker Million VII and World Poker Tour Marrakech, ODea has earned over $700k from live tournaments alone. As a prolific online poker player using the handle intruder123, he earned $315k by winning the iPoker ECOOP III.

With an incredibly diverse November Nine that includes players from Germany, Ukraine, the United States, the Czech Republic, the UK and Belize, ODea is happy for the opportunity to fulfill his fathers legacy and secure a win for Ireland, an event that hasnt occurred since Noel Furlong won the Main Event in 1999.
