Community Club Celebrates 50 Years Of Bingo Games
People who attend a community group in order to play bingo games and meet up with their friends have been celebrating it reaching its 50th birthday. The Welford Welcome Club for senior citizens was set up back in 1961 to offer a place for the older people who live in the village to meet up and have some fun, the Lutterworth Mail reported. At present, there are 62 people who are members of the club, with its reputation for being a great place to spend some time spreading far and wide, with some attendees coming from as far away as Leicester and Rugby. The group meets once a month for the mature people who live in the area to spend time for tea and playing bingo, with day trips also organised.Club chair Marion Wright said the meeting place works well as a way of getting older people out of their homes to enjoy themselves.”Its a club for over sixties but we welcome anyone to join us,” said Ms Wright.A community hall in Castlemilk is also welcoming people to play bingo again after it was reopened recently by volunteers.
