Community Centre Gets £240k For Bingo Games
A community centre in London is celebrating after it was given a huge donation which will enable it to carry on playing bingo games and offer other services.The Finsbury Park Community Hub, which is based in the Andover Community Centre, has been given a massive donation of £240,000, the Islington Gazette reported.The centre is noted to be a hub for the local community to meet and offers a wide selection of activities to those who live nearby, ranging from salsa classes and bingo through to youth groups and IT training.Over the past 15 years, the centre has had to rely on small donations in order to keep up its work.However, it has now been decided that it will benefit from having a £60,000 a year handout for the next four years from the local council.Theresa Coyle, director of the centre, said: “This is a lifeline for everyone. This is the difference between a community in turmoil and community cohesion.”She explained that it offers them financial security and the ability to plan for the future with confidence.A team of community workers in the Acton area of London recently pitched in to revamp a community centre where visitors regularly play bingo games.
