Charity Bingo To Continue In Memory of Fundraiser

A family has pledged to continue running a charity bingo event in memory of their wife and mum, who originally set it up.

June Fox established the bingo night and founded the Humberston Heartbeaters to raise money for the coronary care unit of the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby and many other local good causes, the Grimsby Telegraph reported.

Ms Fox dedicated her life to raising money for the centre after she underwent two major heart operations, the first of which took place while she was four months pregnant with her youngest daughter.

The 76-year-old recently passed away after suffering a heart attack, but her husband and daughters have pledged to carry on holding the regular bingo games.

She managed to raise more than £20,000 with her bingo nights over the years, despite having breast cancer and suffering from diabetes, in addition to a heart condition.

“June loved bingo, so she decided to hold weekly bingo nights and it just took off from there. It became a family affair,” her partner Danny told the newspaper.

The charity group will hold the bingo evening on the first Wednesday of each month in Wendover Hall, Humberston, with games beginning at 19:30 BST.

Playing bingo is also the plan of a community group in Abbotsbury, with the Dorset Echo reporting the fun will begin at Strangeways Hall on April 8th 2011.
