Bodog Poker to Save Their Fish
Bodog Poker are taking further steps to protect the interests of their recreational players by denying data mining programs access to its online poker site.
Following the initial software changes earlier this year, Bodog Poker are accelerating the pace in preventing HUD software from accessing data about Bodog Poker players which – in the words of Bodog Europe’s Patrik Selin – is only benefitting a small core of pro players.
No Access to Data
Although completely different from the anonymous tables which can currently be played on Ladbrokes Poker and Party Poker, the principal behind the changes is the same. If the pros cannot access hand histories, styles of play and data relating to predefined betting patterns, they will not have such a great edge as before over players who do not use statistical software to their advantage – something which Selin believes will even up the playing field.
Full Tables Removed from Lobby
Bodog has already removed full tables from the cash game lobby of their web site to prevent data sites such as PokerScout identifying playing numbers, and further changes are in the pipeline. Jonas Odman – Vice President of the Bodog Poker Network said of the new changes, “It is vital for the online poker industry that the depositing players are put first rather than the high raking professionals who rarely, if ever, add new money to the pot.”
Good Poker Players Will Still Win
Selin continued the theme of reversing the focus from catering for the professional players when he likened the use of poker HUD software as “bringing a gun to a knife fight”. There is no doubt that there is a benefit to this move by Bodog Poker to encourage new players onto their site without the risk of being torn apart by sharks. Good poker players will always triumph over bad ones in the long run, and for a recreational poker websites such as Bodog, protecting the smaller players could turn out to be a very shrewd move on their part.
